Finally a video game adaptation that gamers can actually love. Short film director Moe Charif has created a beautiful recreation of the world of Deus Ex in his new film titled ‘Human Revolution’. The film is loosely based on the 2011 cyberpunk Masterpiece Deus Ex: Human Revolution, only with a few minor plot details changed. The lead protagonist remains the augmented security guard extraordinaire Adam Jensen, played by Charif himself and the female lead is still Jensen’s beloved ex girlfriend Megan Reed, played by Liannet Borrego. The two main villains are Bob Page and Yelena Fedorova played by Antoni Corone and Shayna Nicole E’Orio. All characters bear a striking resemblance to their pixelated counterparts and are portrayed very well indeed despite the admitted slight lack of emotional depth given to the characters in the original game.
Despite the film’s short length and limited budget it goes way beyond what any other video game adaptation has accomplished. In terms of its authenticity and its uncompromising loyalty to the source material, as a fan of the series you really couldn’t ask for much more, which is more than you can say for the vast majority of other Video Game movies. If more Game adaptations were made to this standard, we would surely live in a better world.
